1D Mark III Firmware upgrade

I just upgraded my 1D Mark III firmware to version 1.2.3

I have to say thanks to Canon for the inclusion of two of my most missed features: selecting focusing points with the multi contoler and wireless control of multiple flashs.

Below are some of the changes in the new firmware

Custom Function for Auto Focus The functional multicontroller now can select all 19 focusing points instead of just toggling between center and camera auto selection.

External Flash control menu now supports the wireless flash control as well.  This is a feature supported by the 40D, 1Ds Mark III and even the Rebel XSi.  This is one of my favorite features to use and I would often opt for the 40D instead of the Mark III when shooting with more then one flash.  This feature truely makes the a camera for the “jack of all trades” photographer.

In addtions there are new fuctions that allow you to switch around the Exposure Compensation button with the Auto Focus button or the ISO button.  I’m already used to their locations so I don’t plan on taking advantage of this feature, but at least it’s there for those who care to use it.

Finally the have improves the stability of AF accuracy in AI servo AF when shooting extremely low-contrast subjects continuously.  Although my camera fits withing the serial numbers of those effected by the reported problem, I was never able to duplicate the situation even when shooting in temetures as high as 105 Degrees.  Still, I’m looking forwared to testing it out.
