Delkin and Hoodman have recently introduced new high speed CompactFlash promising greater reliability, while SanDisk has taken the wraps off a 64GB SDXC card. Delkin's CombatFlash series is speed-rated at 625X, available in capacities up to 32GB and built to withstand extreme environmental conditions, while Hoodman's latest RAW CompactFlash is speed-rated at 675X, comes in capacities up to 16GB and utilizes enterprise-level flash memory. SanDisk's highest-capacity Secure Digital card to date is the new Ultra 64GB. It's also the company's first offering in the SDXC variant of this memory card format. Buff has announced this week that the release of the slick Einstein 640 monolight will almost certainly be delayed beyond the late February/early March shipping timeframe recently given by the company. Canon has unveiled the EOS Rebel T2i, its best-appointed Rebel class camera to date that offers many of the key features of the EOS 7D at a fraction of the cost. The T2i includes a 17.92 million image pixel CMOS sensor, fires at up to 3.7fps, sports 63-zone metering and 9-point AF systems, is compatible with both SD/SDHC and SDXC format memory cards and can capture 1080p video at 30fps (its other resolution and frame rate options are the same as the 7D, plus it incorporates a stereo external mic jack too). Wireless memory card maker Eye-Fi has introduced the Eye-Fi Pro X2, an 8GB SDHC card that features an 802.11n radio for quicker uploading, faster read/write speeds to the card itself and a new option called Endless Memory that enables the card to automatically delete the oldest photos and video from the card once it has confirmed they've been successfully transferred to their destination. The company is also releasing a companion application, called Eye-Fi Center, that allows a wireless network configuration to be added to the card even when not connected to the Internet and can manage the republishing of photos and video to various online destinations, including photos and video not originally captured to an Eye-Fi card. The EOS-1D Mark IV, Canon's 16.06 million image pixel, 10fps replacement for the troubled EOS-1D Mark III, has been released for sale in the U.S. and Canada. We've received the first reports of photographers taking delivery of the camera in the U.S. starting on December 31, while we've confirmed that Canon Canada commenced shipments starting on December 30 (shipping times and today's holiday mean that most Canadian dealers outside the Toronto area won't receive their initial allotment of bodies before early next week). In a blog entry today, top-notch U.S. sports photographer Brad Mangin has written an enthusiastic assessment of the EOS-1D Mark IV's AF system, based on his use of a preproduction body at an NFL football game this past weekend. Mangin, who refers to the EOS-1D Mark III and its AF system as "a complete disaster," says the EOS-1D Mark IV, by comparison, "performed flawlessly" as it captured many more properly focused frames than its predecessor. LPA Design has posted firmware v5.0 for the PocketWizard MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 for Canon.
